Although I'm not primarily a still life painter, I do get inspired by the everyday objects in and around my home such as this fruit bowl in my living room. This wasn't a deliberate setup but just as it was on that day. The fruits appeared so vibrant as the sun shone on them from my bay window. The rest of the surroundings in the shadowed area seemed very subtle. Within the greys you could see all the colours of the fruits reflected. I deliberately made the edge of the fruit bowl imperfect to give the painting interest and to enhance the perspective just as the great masters would do.
