Watercolour painting of a section of the long, column-supported walkway or colonnade of the Hampstead Pergola in London, UK. The pergola is a hidden treasure in my area in Hampstead and I'm lucky to be walking distance from it. If you don't know the area, you probably won't find it and wouldn't have heard about it. This raised old walkway is overgrown with vine and other exotic plants. It runs through the beautiful garden below. Spring and summer are magical times with spectacular display of colours of the many plants and flowers. Once owned by Lord Leverhulme, who built the Pergola as his legacy. Sadly since his death the Pergola has been losing its grandeur and today it resembles 'an ageing skeleton in the middle of a secret garden'. It really has a special atmosphere. If you ever visit this area, it's an absolute must to see this place.
Although I portrayed the place rather eerie, in reality it isn't. You hardly ever see the walkway without people.
Watercolour on paper. Size: 12 x 16 inches. Year: 2018.
The original painting is also available in my Etsy shop: WatercoloursByLia.
