12x16 in ~ Painting, Watercolor
Watercolour painting of a view of Papagayo Beach from the top of the headland on the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands. I couldn't paint this view while I was there as it was so windy so I painted from reference photos. I was particularly fascinated by the bare desert landscape with its various earthy colours contrasting the turquoise shallow waters of this beautiful bay. The white areas left out on the horizon represent the buildings of the nearby Playa Blanca which was my base during my stay. In the distance on the right, just about visible the famous Montaña Roja faded by the Sahara sand in the atmosphere which is mostly present and gives the sky a surreal appearance on the islands. I find Lanzarote the most fascinating of all the Canary Islands.
Watercolour on paper. Size: 16 x 12 inches. Year: 2021.
