12x16 in ~ Painting, Watercolor
I last visited Staithes, a coastal village on the North Yorkshire coast some years ago when I took a series of photos which I painted this from. It was a very cold day on my last visit when the beach was highlighted by the sun which was slowly disappearing behind the stormy clouds. The buildings of the village seemed far away from this viewpoint without being able to make out much detail so I left them suggestive to indicate this. My main focus was the colourful fishing boats reflecting in the small puddles left behind the tide. The rope of chains that keep the boats in place created a nice perspective, drawing the viewers attention to the boats first and then the background.
Watercolour on paper. Size: 16 x 12 inches. Year: 2021.
