Watercolour painting of the West Cornish coast looking towards Land's End which is just on the horizon near the headland in the distance. I travel to Cornwall almost every year at different times of year. This was during Spring years ago. I was sitting on the large rock shown in the foreground with my sketchbook, attempting a quick sketch of this coastline in bad weather but the views were worth it. I did this full painting based on that sketch and the photo I took of my set-up that day. See 2nd image.
I kept this painting quite simple leaving out whites where the surf breaks and using rapid brushstrokes with a large brush to prevent myself from getting into too many small details. I aimed to capture the atmosphere of that day.
