12x16 in ~ Painting, Watercolor
Watercolour painting of the once famous rock formation called Azure Window on the island of Gozo, Malta. This rock arch has collapsed since my visit in 2011 when I did an on-location sketch. This painting is a studio painting from a photo I took during my visit. Rocks and rock formations are fun but challenging to paint. I added layers of colours going from light to dark in this case to create the rugged effect of the weathered rocks. This painting really shows the dominant colours of the island, the brightly coloured limestone along the coast contrasting the deepest blue, almost black, colour of the sea. A truly magical place.
Watercolour on paper. Size: 16 x 12 inches. Year: 2021.
