Watercolour painting of three boats at low tide at the famous North Yorkshire seaside village of Staithes in England. Once an important fishing port, Staithes is now more of a tourist attraction which draws here many artists for its hillside cottages and colourful fishing boats left stranded in the mud left behind the tide on this rugged coastline.
My main focus was the the boats. I painted only suggestively the famous cliff face in the background that casts its shadow over the foreground. This is just enough to make the scene recognisable.
