16x12 in ~ Painting, Watercolor
I did a preliminary sketch of this London landmark called Wellington Arch, in my sketchbook many years ago during a spring day and have been meaning to turn it into a painting. This painting is a combination of the original sketch and reference photos so that I could get the proportions right as in my sketch the arch seems a bit taller. I wanted this to be quite colourful to emphasise the autumn sun as I turned into an autumn scene which I find more exciting than a spring or summer landscape. It was quite challenging to include all the details so I had to simplify by focusing on light and dark areas. I painted the approximate shapes of the statues which may not be completely correct but recognisable. I added just a few figures to indicate a rather quiet afternoon.
Watercolour on paper. Size: 12 x 16 inches. Year: 2022.
The original is available in my etsy store.
