12x16 in ~ Painting, Watercolor
Another watercolour painting of a view near the English seaside town of Aldeburgh, looking towards Southwolds which is only barely visible on the distant horizon. I decided not to add figures to keep the scene as peaceful as it appeared that day. The large foreground from a low viewpoint also highlights the calmness and vastness of the shore. A traditional scene of the British coast with fishing boats dotting the beach, like old veterans resting on the shore. The East coast, albeit flat and often featureless, has been a haven for artists of the past and present times. I find these flat, never-ending beaches very inspiring. The challenge is to make the painting exciting for the viewer.
